Liverpool eye £70m move for Premier League’s 18-goal midfielder

🇬🇧

Liverpool are considering activating Morgan Gibbs-White’s £70 million release clause after their pursuit of RB Leipzig winger Diomande collapsed.

The Reds’ plan to sign Diomande as Mohamed Salah’s long-term successor appeared finalised, but the deal is now off the table. Whether Liverpool revisit the move remains uncertain, but club executives Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes must act quickly to secure an alternative.

Fabrizio Romano has previously highlighted Gibbs-White as a prime target. The 26-year-old Brazilian forward at Bournemouth remains a long-term option, but his transfer is not imminent. Liverpool’s search for a direct right-winger replacement may now shift focus entirely.

Instead of targeting a natural right-winger, Liverpool could reshape their attack. Florian Wirtz is set to occupy the inside-left position, while Cody Gakpo’s future remains uncertain. Dominik Szoboszlai’s versatility could allow him to play from the right flank, drifting inside to combine with overlapping full-backs.

This tactical adjustment would free Liverpool to pursue an elite attacking midfielder to dominate central areas. The profile would better suit Andoni Iraola’s system, improving balance in midfield and attack.

Morgan Gibbs-White’s attributes align closely with Liverpool’s needs. Last season, he scored 18 goals across all competitions for Nottingham Forest. His pressing intensity, goal threat, and leadership make him a compelling option.

The 26-year-old has emerged as one of the Premier League’s most complete attacking midfielders. His ability to cover ground, create chances, and lead by example has drawn attention from multiple top clubs.

Gibbs-White’s contract at Forest includes a release clause, reportedly around £70 million. Liverpool are prepared to activate it if the valuation is confirmed. His competitive profile and vocal presence would fit Liverpool’s high-intensity style under Iraola.

Adding Gibbs-White would address Liverpool’s struggles in defensive transitions. His aggression in regaining possession quickly would strengthen the midfield alongside a potential defensive pivot upgrade.

The Reds’ midfield trio of Szoboszlai, Wirtz, and Gibbs-White could provide the energy, creativity, and goals required to compete at the highest level.
