Hornchurch’s midfield boost: ex‑Crewe star Jack Powell signs

🇬🇧

Hornchurch have secured the services of 32‑year‑old midfielder Jack Powell after his release by Crewe Alexandra. Powell featured in 32 matches across all competitions for the Railwaymen last season as Crewe finished 11th in League Two, bringing experience to the National League side.

The 32‑year‑old midfielder joins Hornchurch under manager Daryl McMahon, who previously coached him at Ebbsfleet United. McMahon, now the Hornchurch boss, oversaw Powell’s development during their time together at the Kent club. Their reunion is expected to add depth to Hornchurch’s midfield options for the upcoming National League campaign.

Powell also amassed 132 League Two appearances for Crawley Town over four seasons. During his spell with the Red Devils, he became a regular fixture in the side’s midfield. His experience across multiple clubs positions him as a seasoned professional in the lower leagues.

"He is a terrific footballer who has had a fantastic career to date," Daryl McMahon said on the club website. "He is still hungry and wants to be successful," McMahon added, highlighting Powell’s ambition. The endorsement underscores the manager’s confidence in the midfielder’s ability to contribute immediately.

Hornchurch have not disclosed the length of Powell’s contract. The signing adds to the squad of the National League newcomers as they prepare for their debut season.
