Dundee Utd chase creativity with free‑agent Mehdi Merghem

Manager Jim Goodwin said the squad needed a player who can create chances from nothing, describing Merghem as the answer to a creative void. He added that the winger’s ability to make something happen out of nothing fits the team’s tactical needs.
Goodwin also praised the new signing, stating he “brings a real creative difference” to United. He believes Merghem’s style and dead‑ball expertise will excite the fans.
Merghem holds both French and Algerian citizenship and is United’s ninth summer signing. His résumé includes Ligue 1 experience with Guingamp, a stint in Portugal with Farense, and spells at USM Alger and JS Kabylie.
The winger said, “I can’t wait to get going,” adding that meeting his new teammates has been fantastic. He highlighted positive conversations with the manager and coaching staff.
Merghem aims to generate chances, score goals and provide assists for Dundee United as the season progresses. The club looks forward to integrating his creativity into the lineup, hoping it will lift the attacking play.
