Celtic's first signing: Durán's medical awaits in Glasgow
Celtic manager Martin O'Neill has confirmed that forward Camilo Durán is set to undergo a medical in Glasgow as the club's first summer signing. The 24-year-old Colombian, arriving for an undisclosed fee, will complete the process either tonight or tomorrow morning ahead of the Scottish champions' pre-season friendly against Shelbourne in Dublin.
Durán arrives at Celtic Park after spending less than a year with Azerbaijan Premier League runners-up Qarabag, having signed from Portuguese club Portimonense. His move follows five goals in 10 Champions League appearances last season, which elevated his profile across Europe.
O'Neill addressed the transfer during a Celtic TV interview, stating: "We've got the young lad Duran - he is doing a medical as we speak - if he's not doing it tonight, he'll be doing it tomorrow morning."
The manager acknowledged fan concerns over Celtic's delayed summer business, particularly after title rivals Heart of Midlothian made 10 signings and Rangers completed five. "We've a number of players we're looking at," O'Neill said. "We have offers in for players at the same time. Hopefully in the not too distant future, in the next couple of weeks, we will have some really decent players at the football to add to the decent players we already have."
Durán's senior career began with Lusitânia in the Portuguese District League before spells at Estrela Amadora and a return to Lusitânia to help secure promotion to Liga 3. He then joined Portimonense in Liga 2, making 48 appearances, 33 of them starts, with 15 goals and 10 assists across his time in Portugal.
At Qarabag, he made 33 starts last season, contributing 15 goals and 10 assists across all competitions. His arrival marks a strategic step for Celtic as they seek to reinforce their squad amid competitive pressure from rivals.
