Bristol City turn to Stevenage’s Neil Banfield as Robins’ new assistant
Bristol City have appointed Stevenage coach Neil Banfield as their new assistant manager under Nigel Robins. The move follows Banfield’s role in Stevenage’s highest-ever league finish of sixth last season.
Banfield spent the past two seasons at Stevenage alongside manager Alex Revell. The 64-year-old brings 21 years of coaching experience from Arsenal, including during Arsene Wenger’s tenure.
His coaching career also includes spells at Charlton, Queens Park Rangers and Rangers. The appointment strengthens Bristol City’s technical staff as they prepare for the new campaign.
He joins Michael Skubula’s coaching team alongside Ian Burchnall, who was appointed assistant manager last month, first-team coach Alex Ball and goalkeeping coach Pat Mountain.
Bristol City sporting director James Ellis praised Banfield’s credentials, stating: "He is a specialist in developing young players as well as a clear winner. His ability to connect with and challenge players makes him a brilliant addition."
The appointment reflects Bristol City’s focus on blending youth development with competitive ambition under Robins’ leadership.
