Westerlo clinches Bill Lathouwers after Mechelen deal stalls

Twenty-six‑year‑old goalkeeper Bill Lathouwers is set to join KVC Westerlo after his transfer to KV Mechelen fell through. The former RWDM Brussels custodian is expected to undergo medical tests on this Friday, with a contract likely to be signed shortly.

Lathouwers made 55 appearances for RWDM Brussels before the club dropped to the highest amateur division after losing its professional licence. RWDM is set to receive roughly €100,000 from the transfer, a sum described as financially beneficial.

Transfermarkt values the goalkeeper at €400,000. This season he started 14 league matches before being relegated to the bench in early December and even spent January on the stands.

Earlier in his career Lathouwers featured for Antwerp, MVV, SK Beveren and Beerschot. He left the Kielse Ratten in January 2024 to sign for RWDM Brussels.

The Kakkers had eyed Lathouwers as a potential backup for Nacho Miras at KV Mechelen, given Ortwin De Wolf's injury. However, RWDM's demand for a transfer fee prevented the Mechelen agreement, prompting Westerlo to act.

According to the Gazet van Antwerpen, Lathouwers is due for his medical examination on Friday. A swift signing would see him return to the Belgian Pro League with Westerlo, marking his first top‑level appearance since leaving Antwerp.
