Manchester City’s next midfield target after Anderson signing
Manchester City, the FA Cup and Carabao Cup champions, have secured England midfielder Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest for £116 million, as reported by David Ornstein of The Athletic. The deal marks the first step in City’s plan to reinforce their midfield ahead of the new season.
Manchester City remain interested in Italian international Sandro Tonali, despite Tottenham Hotspur’s early pursuit of the midfielder. Luke Edwards of The Telegraph City are in regular dialogue with Newcastle United about Tonali.
Newcastle United expect City to increase their offer for Tonali now that the Anderson transfer is complete. Edwards notes the club has been monitoring the Italian for over a year.
Another potential target is 18‑year‑old Moroccan midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi of Lille. Deportes reporter Rodra says Manchester City are the club best positioned to sign him.
Signing Tonali would add proven Premier League quality and a technically superb, hard‑working presence to City’s engine room. The Italian’s work‑rate and skill are described as a quality addition to the midfield.
Bouaddi, already regarded as a quality player, could become a premier midfielder for the next decade. With Anderson on his way, it remains to be seen which of the two targets City will pursue to complete the midfield rejuvenation.
