Cheltenham Town have completed the signing of 28‑year‑old midfielder Jordan Shipley from Port Vale, following the Valiants' relegation to League Two. The move reunites Shipley with former Shrewsbury Town manager Steve Cotterill, who now leads the Robins in the upcoming season.

Shipley had joined Port Vale on a two‑year contract last summer, but after the Valiants' relegation to League Two he was told he could seek a move. The 28‑year‑old midfielder therefore became free to leave at the end of the season.

Shipley previously worked with Robins manager Steve Cotterill at Shrewsbury Town, and he cited Cotterill as a major factor in his decision to join Cheltenham. "As soon as I heard the gaffer wanted me here it was a no brainer," Shipley told BBC Radio Gloucestershire.

"The main thing at Shrewsbury was the togetherness that we had there and that's what we want to bring here now," he said. Shipley added that he hopes to increase his goal and assist tally while giving his all for Cheltenham this season.

Before joining Port Vale, Shipley played for Coventry and featured in two promotion‑winning campaigns that took the Sky Blues to the Championship. His experience in higher divisions is expected to bolster Cheltenham's midfield.

Cheltenham have not disclosed the length of Shipley's contract. The club also announced the signing of midfielder McCann from Barrow.
