Galatasaray of Istanbul have listed Kevin De Bruyne as a target to replace Dries Mertens, with the Belgian midfielder currently at Napoli on a one‑year deal after joining in summer 2025. De Bruyne’s market value is about €8 million; he has 121 caps and 37 goals for Belgium and logged 18 Serie A games with five goals and two assists last season.

The Istanbul club must move on from Dries Mertens, who has departed after several seasons of influence. Galatasaray’s board is looking for a midfielder who can add creativity, experience and leadership to the centre of the pitch.

Turkish outlet Ajansspor Galatasaray have already gathered information on De Bruyne’s situation. Initial exploratory talks have been conducted through intermediaries, according to the same source.

At 34, Kevin De Bruyne remains among the most respected midfielders of his generation. He currently holds 121 caps and 37 goals for the Belgian national side. He previously enjoyed a legendary spell at Manchester City before moving to Napoli.

De Bruyne joined Napoli in the summer of 2025 and retains a contract for one more year. Napoli have indicated they are not prepared to sell a player who is still under contract and well compensated.

Beyond Turkey, MLS clubs New York City and Chicago have been active for months in trying to attract a player of De Bruyne’s calibre. Both American sides see a high‑profile signing as a way to boost their league profile.

Galatasaray believes its participation in the Champions League next season gives it a competitive edge in negotiations. The prospect of European football could tip the balance in favour of the Turkish giants.

According to the Turkish press, Galatasaray will not shy away from pulling out all the stops to persuade De Bruyne to join.
